Flawed People
“The morality? Flawed! Vice leads to difficulty, virtue to reward. Bad characters come to bad ends.” ~Becoming Jane
Where are we in the process? Well the good thing is that we have completed our paperwork. The questionnaires about every individual person in our immediate family took a while. Overall they just want to make sure that the baby will be going to a family that is based on love and God.
Having a checklist has always been fun for me, and right now we are 7 out of 10 steps complete. I am probably a list person because my dad was a perfectionist. He didn’t try to push perfection on us, but he strived to be perfect himself. Having a list and completing tasks goes right along with that.
In Luke 15 we see a similar personality. The older brother in the parable of the Prodigal Son is a list guy! He thinks that if he does everything on the list then he will get everything he wants, the family inheritance. I never really noticed this until Tim Keller pointed it out in his book Prodigal God.
Having a list, goals, accomplishments aren’t bad or wrong. Being a good person does not equal perfect life. Being “ready” for a baby didn’t mean that Max and Mav were going to miraculously not have Walker-Warburg Syndrome anymore. Filling out the paperwork and being good people doesn’t mean that we will get a baby tomorrow or that life will be easy.
Love is what the older brother was missing. This is about people! People do not function emotionally or physically like a list on paper. Loving people and loving God make life what it is. And when you have a list to complete then pray that He is helping you at every bullet point.
“The good do not always come to good ends. It is s truth universally acknowledged.” ~Becoming Jane
